Aspiration Abortion Information

Before Your Appointment

Online portal:

Please register for our patient portal and complete the forms before your appointment. Forms include a medical history and consents, and are available in English and Spanish. If you require a different language, or are having trouble accessing this portal, please let us know.  (You can find a quick guide to using the portal here.)

Payment:

Payment is expected at check-in; we accept cash, credit/debit cards, Apple Pay and Zelle. If using insurance – please let us know when scheduling, as they vary on coverage. Due to Virginia law, we generally cannot use Medicaid for abortion. If you require Financial assistance, we partner with groups who may assist with funding, but please reach out ahead of your appointment.

Travel from other states:

It is legal to receive an abortion in Virginia even if your home state has restrictions; please let us know if you need further legal resources. If flying – we are close to Reagan National (DCA) and Dulles International (IAD) airports, please share your itinerary before booking. We recommend flying out the day following your procedure if at all possible. If you are driving – please allow extra time for your commute. Keep in touch if experiencing delays, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Pain Management:

Meadow offers mild to moderate “conscious” sedation for our procedures. Most patients find a combination of our methods that work for them, but note we do not offer deep / “asleep” sedation. (You can find more information about our pain management options here.) If desiring pain management, please plan a ride home. Ideally, have someone you know drive you if possible due to the vulnerable effects of these medications

At Your Appointment:

Clinic Address:

1749 Old Meadow Road, Suite 600, McLean, VA 22102.

The clinic is walkable from DC Metro (McLean station), and there is free parking at the building. When you take the elevator up to floor 6, we are to the right when you exit.  Please ring the doorbell when you get to our front door and someone will come out to greet you.

What to bring:

Please bring your photo ID, your insurance card (if using), and payment. There will be downtime throughout the appointment so feel free to bring a book, iPad, etc. to keep you occupied.

Who to bring:

You are welcome to bring support who may stay with you for most of your appointment. Ensure that guests/children are respectful of those who prefer a quiet setting. Adult companions may be asked to present a photo ID.

What to expect:

Once check-in is complete and forms are done, an abdominal ultrasound will be completed and your clinician will review your health information and plan for pain management. You will be given pre-medications to prepare for the procedure, and there will be some down time until it is your turn. The procedure takes less than 15 minutes, and we confirm it is complete before moving to recovery, where you will be monitored for about 20 minutes to ensure everything is safe, and you then may head out.

Anticipate being at the clinic for 3 hours.

If between 11-15 weeks, you may be here closer to 5+ hours, or your visit may take longer if there are health circumstances requiring additional care or forms to be done at arrival.

If you have further questions, please call or text (703-783-3300); or email [email protected].

Thanks,

Meadow Reproductive Health and Wellness
